The Cabinet Secretary for health has announced an increase on the Covid-19 cases in the country since Thursday’s update.
In an unusual presser at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Mutahi Kagwe said that out of the 450 samples tested on Friday 17 , 12 more cases have turned positive bringing the number to 246.
“As at now, we have tested 450 samples. Out of these, we have 12 positive cases, and we are yet to even reach end of the day. Five of the cases are from hotel workers and four from our contact tracing,” said the CS.
The government is working on expansion of testing capability to ensure that contacts of the patients are traced and tested as soon as possible to control spread of the virus.
“What this tells you is that we need to improve the testing capacities so that the contacts of those people who are positive can also be tested,” he added.
He lauded the CS Transport James Macharia and Kenya Airways for enabling transportation of equipments needed in the fight against the Covid-19 crisis.
The CS was flagged by other government officials including Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and a host of other government leaders where they had gone to receive consignment of medical supplies .
The arrival of the new items will boost the government’s plan to conduct mass testing as mentioned by the president on Thursday 16 when he addressed the nation on what the national government is doing to combat the virus .
