Covid-19: Kenya records fourteen more patients

Fourteen people have tested positive for corona virus in the last 24 hours after 922 samples were tested raising the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 621.

However on a positive note five patients were discharged and this brings the number of recoveries to 202. 29,430 samples have been tested since the first case was reported in the country on March 12 this year.

Speaking at Afya House, Chief Administrative Secretary For Health Dr. Rashid Aman said that change of behaviour is what will free Kenyans from the pandemic and announced that Machakos County as the latest county to record a case.

“In distribution of counties, Nairobi County has 11 cases, Mombasa 2 and Machakos 1. Machakos is the latest county to report a Covid-19 case and this brings to 19 counties which are affected by the virus. 13 cases were picked by our surveillance team and one was from our quarantine facility “, Said the CAS.

A baby aged 11 months is among those confirmed positive, with the eldest being 49 years old. 9 are males while 5 are females. In Nairobi the cases were from Kasarani(4), Makadara(2) ,Umoja, South C, Iringu, Machakos and Quarantine facility have one case each while in Mombasa the 2 cases were from Likoni area. The Machakos case was from Athi River. All the confirmed cases are Kenyans.

He appealed to Kenyans to welcome and celebrate those who have overcome the virus and avoid stigmatising those who have recovered .

Dr. Aman said that the ministry is working together with the county governments in sensitising those who are affected by the heavy rainfalls experienced in the country on how to prevent themselves from contracting the disease by observing the set measures .

The ministry will continue to conduct target testing in high risk areas. No death was reported and therefore the fatalities still stands at 29.
